About Us

Happy Hooves Stables was a dream I had as a child growing up in a small town in rural Michigan.  Back then, I was lucky enough to have a horse stable nearby, took some lessons and participated in a few fun shows.

At age twelve, my best friend, Kris, and I rode our bikes to  Cooper's Farm. It had been a popular hack barn years before, but Mr. Cooper had grown old, and was trying to take care of way too many horses alone.  He hired us on the spot to feed horses, muck out stalls, and care for the other farm animals. There were always puppies to hold, barn cats purring from our laps, and so many horses we gave up trying to count them.  We worked all morning, and since Mr. Cooper couldn't afford to pay us, he let us ride all afternoon.

The Michigan countryside seemed magical, with its meadows full of wildflowers, streams to jump, and shady trails through fragrant apple orchards and majestic pines. Mr. Cooper wasn't a rich man, but he paid us handsomely ... with memories that still linger today.

I moved to Philadelphia for graduate school in 1982, and became a member of the Philadelphia Saddle Club at The Monastery Stables and enjoyed taking lessons and riding regularly for years, through Fairmount Park's endless maze of trails on my horse "Bentley".  In 2003, I purchased the farm here in Lumberton, New Jersey and founded Happy Hooves Stables.

"There is something about the outside of a horse, that is good for the inside of a child"

**Adapted from a quote by Winston S. Churchill

My mission at Happy Hooves Stables has been to give children wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. One of our most important goals is to help children feel the joy gained from interacting with horses.  Games on horseback and lots of hands-on experiences keep students coming back to our lesson programs, Summer Horse Programs, Pony parties, and Scouting Events. All of our horses and ponies are sweet, safe and easy to ride.

I warmly invite you to sign your child up for one of our programs. My Bachelors Degree in Education and Masters in Creative Arts Therapy, my experience parenting two boys and many foster children, and in teaching hundreds of students to ride, makes me someone you can count on to safeguard and kindly teach your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews the art of horsemanship.

**We are not a certified handicapped or special needs riding program and highly recommend Majoda Stables in Moorestown for therapeutic riding.
